[ tw ] - neglect, violence
won chul is only three years old when the authorities find him wandering the street with no supervision. no shoes. his feet are filthy. the police officer asks him where he lives, won chul responds with a blank expression. it's okay. the boys at the station recognize him. they visit his house often. his grandmother opens the door when he returns, she reeks of alcohol and cigarettes. the premises are inspected. won chul is moved to a sister's house.
he's a target from a young age, he's poor and stupid. reading and writing make his heart race. math gives him nausea. won chul starts wetting the bed. one night he makes the mistake of doing so when his sister has a guest. her boyfriend beats him, calls him a 'retard'. when the bruises are discovered, won chul is taken away again.
his new family is his first true family. his new father is a school teacher and helps him get better with letters and numbers. he stops wetting the bed. the nightmares are broken up by intervals of dreams.
a boy stands on the ledge of the administration building. won chul talks him down. tells him it gets better. he know; he's lived it. when they kiss it stirs something inside of him that he didn't know was there. when he leaves, it breaks him. won chul tells his father what is wrong. unacceptable. it is decided that he can't be left alone with his siblings. time to move on again.
his new foster brother likes him and he likes him a lot. he doesn't so much stir up a fire as he lights you ablaze. won chul succumbs to his desires. he graduates high school and moves in with him. he wants to be a police officer. he enlists. compromising photos footage are found of him on the internet. he receives a dishonorable discharge. he has a 'personality disorder' because he likes men too much. his dreams are broken. his lover refuses to be outed too. he has a career, he has dreams and goals.
won chul moves on again.
